Newton Food Pantry
The Newton Food Pantry aims to alleviate food insecurity in Newton by providing supplemental food and personal care products to community members in need, serving our clients with dignity, compassion and respect. We believe no one deserves to go hungry. We believe people have the right to access nutritious food. We value dignity, respect and compassion for all. We value diversity, equity and inclusion. We believe in community-based approaches to addressing food insecurity.
The Newton Food Pantry is an independent all volunteer nonprofit currently serving over 1400 Newton residents twice a month. Since the pandemic, we have been distributing pre-bagged groceries curbside . We have also coordinated bulk grocery delivery to seniors residing in 11 Newton Housing Authority complexed. When it is safe to return inside , we intend to return to a client choice model, functioning more like a free grocery store. One of our new initiatives has been to organize the 'Newton Community Freedge Collaborative'. Based on the principal of "Take what you need and leave what you can", the Newton Food Pantry has coordinated teams of community partners to monitor, clean and stock the freedge with a wide variety of staples. In addition, local businesses and restaurants have been generously making weekly donations. This is an exciting and innovative way to help reduce food insecurity and increase engagement with the Newton Community.
