Friends of the Los Angeles River

Galina Peters
570 West Avenue 26, Suite 250

Founded by poet Lewis MacAdams in an effort to bring the LA River back to life, FoLAR believes that no one entity besides nature can claim ownership of the River, and has worked for more than 30 years to restore the presence of the LA River in the consciousness of residents so that people can see the potential for a thriving River.

Since 1986, Friends of the Los Angeles River has been agent for change and a River steward for those who share our vision: we believe in a swimmable, boatable, fishable, bikeable river for all. We work to bring people to the River, and the River to the people via our community outreach and education programs, our seasonal River-side visitor center - the Frog Spot, citizen science activites, advocacy and policy work, and our signature program, the Great LA River CleanUp - the largest urban river cleanup in America!
