Food For Free
Food For Free has been bridging the gap between waste and want for over 30 years. Lots of perfectly good food is thrown away in our country, and at the same time, many people don't have enough healthy food to eat. Food For Free rescues fruit, vegetables, and other food that might otherwise go to waste and delivers that food to over 100 different food pantries, meal programs, and afterschool programs, helping to feed more than 25,000 people each year.
In the United States, about 30-40% of our food goes to waste. At the same time, there are about 125,000 children in Massachusetts who are at risk of going hungry every day. This just doesn't make sense to us! So we operate seven days a week, picking up perfectly good food from grocery stores, farmers' markets, dining halls, bakeries, and more---food that might otherwise end up in the trash. Then we deliver that food to food pantries, meal programs, afterschool programs, and more, where it can reach the people who need it.
