Every night, nearly 1 billion people around the world go to bed hungry.
Hunger is defined as not having access to enough food every day.
Food insecurity is another important term, and it refers to people who don’t know when their next meal will be. Folks all over the world are working to end the fight against hunger and food insecurity. Will you join the fight?

How can you help?
You need food to live, and people facing hunger and food insecurity struggle with challenges to their health, growth and survival. Here are ways you can help end the fight.
- Deliver meals. Many elderly people are homebound and hungry. As a family, you can hand-deliver meals to people in need, helping them fight hunger and loneliness at the same time. See how Meals on Wheels works. And check out our partners, St. Vincent Meals on Wheels. (Los Angeles)
- Share a PB&J. You can make a difference in someone’s day just by using ingredients you might already have at home. Many organizations accept sandwich donations to deliver to hungry neighbors. Learn more.
- Volunteer at a food bank. Food banks, food shelters, and food pantries are serving so many people a day, they could always use an extra hand. Check to see if your local food bank, food shelter, or food pantry has age limits for volunteers or requires you to have an adult with you. Then, all you need is a positive attitude and readiness to help. Here’s an example.
- Find a cause you love. Pick an issue or project in your community that speaks to you – and speak up. Start your search now.

- Walk to raise money. Find or organize a walk-a-thon or bike-a-thon to raise money and help feed hungry people in your hometown. Ready to lace up?
