Program will run from June 13th - July 22nd. Youth who join our Umoja Peer Leaders will work about 10 - 15 hours per week for the duration of the program.

Umoja Health uses the “For us, By us” model. More details can be found at this website: https://unitedinhealthoakland.org . Peer leaders will also be provided training to address several known barriers faced by communities of color. This training will consist of: 1) basic knowledge about COVID-19, its causes and mitigation strategies 2) how COVID-19 has impacted communities of color 3) a facilitated dialogue about how COVID-19 has impacted the Equity Manager/Peer leaders, their families and communities 4) typical scenarios encountered on outreach and practice with role playing. 5) A list of frequently asked questions by community members and trained responses.
DESCRIPTION
YCS Summer Umoja Peer Leaders will conduct public health research by engaging the community to identify potential barriers to healthcare access in the community. You will be training by public health professionals and will take the lead on conducting community-based research.

This program is for youth 16 to 18 years of age.
