Minimum age of 14 (those under the age of 14 MUST have a parent present, parent must also undergo CORI/SORI background checks).

DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes. Assists the Swim Instructor during swim classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists in swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines (i.e. keeping swimmers safe, challenged, and actively engaged, maintain a safe swimming environment, and enforcing pool rules & policies), having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
  2. Learn to builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. 
  3. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
  4. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. If needed, helps to complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
  5. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
  6. Willingness to accept responsibilities and duties other than those assigned.

ITEMS NEEDED

  1. Complete Volunteer Application Form.
  2. Complete CORI (paper) and OneSource Background Check (online).
  3. Complete required online training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Preferred commitment of one lesson a week (1 hr.) for a 6-8 week period.
  • Please allow 1-2 weeks prior to start date for paperwork, background checks and online trainings to get completed.

  1. Fill out application (located on WSY website).
  2. Send in application to Emily Flynn at emilyf@wsymca.org. Be sure to let her know you found the opportunity on the PGK site.  
  3. Once reviewed, Emily will reach out via email with instructions to complete CORI for and One Source Background check and online training.  
  4. Typically takes 1-3 days for application to be reviewed.
  5. After forms are completed, background checks are cleared (1-2 weeks) and online training to be completed with or without parent (as appropriate).
  6. Once approved, Emily will connect volunteer with department director to set up training and volunteer shifts.
