We at Pajama Program firmly believe that representation matters.
Why?
Representation is crucial to making a child feel included in society and to expanding all children’s concept of what is possible.
When children see people who look, act, and experience life like them reflected in the books they read, they are able to feel a sense of inclusion in society and can see potential for what their lives could be.
But representation does not only benefit people of color; representation benefits everyone. According to Literacy Minnesota, reading multicultural books promotes unity, empathy, and the interaction of children across differing ethnic backgrounds, among many other benefits.
DESCRIPTION
Celebrate diversity and representation during an affinity month (and all year-round!) by giving a child a storybook centered on minorities.
