HOW IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
We hope that you keep the spirit of community music events going and find these DIY instructions and templates helpful! Please keep these guidelines in mind as you prepare your porch or backyard performance.
Porchfests are music events held across the United States and in Canada on front porches. Started in Ithaca, New York in 2007, porchfest events bring local musicians and neighborhoods together to celebrate and create a sense of community.
Respect for your community. Porchfest works because we all work together to be a respectful community.
Decide who is going to host and who is going to play music. Click on 'VIEW INSTRUCTIONS ' below for more guidelines and links to templates you can use.
- HOSTS: Please let your neighbors know you’ll be hosting music on your porch. You can use our official neighborhood invitation and poster template to spread the word. Please fill in your porch info and distribute to homes within ear shot of your porch.
- BANDS: Please play at a “neighbor-friendly” volume, especially in residential streets and neighborhoods. Your neighbors’ windows should not be shaking! If a neighbor asks you to turn down, please do. This will help Porchfest continue from year to year.
- HOSTS and BANDS: Be in touch with each other to confirm arrival times, electric needs (if any) and break down time.
- Please wrap up your music by 6pm on the day of your performance or by a mutually agreed upon time by your neighbors.
