Volunteers connect with older adults in their family, neighborhood, or community to nominate for a Wish of a Lifetime.

May need assistance with finding an older adult, interviewing, and submitting the application online. 

HOW IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

The granting of a wish is a simple act, and yet the
outcomes are profound. The positive impact we have seen motivates us to do everything we can to extend our reach and touch the lives of even more older adults.

DESCRIPTION

Be a Wish Ambassador in your town today! Wish Ambassadors help support Wish of a Lifetime’s mission to shift the way society views and values our oldest generations by fulfilling seniors’ dreams and sharing their stories to inspire those of all ages through the entire wish process. Wish Ambassadors will play a major role in nominating older adults in their community for a wish with assistance from the National Field team.

ITEMS NEEDED

Computer to submit the nomination.  Applications can also be downloaded and mailed directly to Wish of a Lifetime from AARP.

NEXT STEPS

  1. Identify older adult(s) to nominate in your community
    1. Senior Living Communities
    2. Family, friends, neighbors who meet the criteria.
    3. Local nonprofit organizations that work with older adults. Including but not limited to church groups, veteran organizations, Meals on Wheels etc.
  2. Connect with older adults and complete a short interview to help identify a wish and answer application questions. Questions could include:
    1. What makes you happy? What do you love?
    2. Who are the most important people in your life? When did you last see them?
    3. Have you served in the military or participated in volunteering throughout your life?
    4. What is something you have always wanted to do, but never had the chance?
    5. What are some of your hobbies/interests? Are you still able to participate in them?
  3. Learning about their life story should help you uncover a potential wish. If a wish is discovered, fill out the application and submit the nomination at wishofalifetime.org. 
  4.  If you would like to include pictures, video, or a recording of the nominee to add to the application please email them to volunteer@wishofalifetime.org.
  5. WOL’s team will review the application and begin the vetting process.
